When PM Boris Johnson Came To Town...
You may well have seen us in the newspapers, or on the TV screens just recently. Thats because we welcomed the Prime Minister Boris Johnson to The Bike Lounge to officially open the store and to discuss the new government backed pro cycling campaign of better infrastructure, medical help and repair scheme vouchers.
We were chosen from thousands of bike shops due to being a new venture opened during a time of crisis due to the Covid-19 pandemic. In the face of adversity we opened the doors for the first time and have not looked back.
With lots of support from friends, family and industry representatives many of which are also friends we have been fortunate to find stock and supplies where many have struggled and build a shop full of stock and help many many customers get back on their bikes.
When the Prime Minister heard about our shop via the Broxtowe MP Darren Henry, he was keen to come and visit and also help out fixing a couple of bikes. He also borrowed a bike from us to have a little ride of his own along the beeston canal tow path and into the Heritage centre at the weir fields where he met with and chatted to members of the Beeston Road Club and Beeston Cycling Club which we carefully orchestrated to ensure security and social distancing with the allotted volunteers.
He also shared a few stories of his own concerning cycling, his own bikes and also dogs after meeting our own shop dog ‘kook’ ; there were a few jokes along the way too!
We extend our sincere thanks to Darren & his wife, Boris Johnson and all of his team and staff who were so kind and friendly throughout the morning.
Hopefully see you all again.
