When PM Boris Johnson Came To Town…

When PM Boris Johnson Came To Town...

You may well have seen us in the newspapers, or on the TV screens just recently. Thats because we welcomed the Prime Minister Boris Johnson to The Bike Lounge to officially open the store and to discuss the new government backed pro cycling campaign of better infrastructure, medical help and repair scheme vouchers.

We were chosen from thousands of bike shops due to being a new venture opened during a time of crisis due to the Covid-19 pandemic. In the face of adversity we opened the doors for the first time and have not looked back.

With lots of support from friends, family and industry representatives many of which are also friends we have been fortunate to find stock and supplies where many have struggled and build a shop full of stock and help many many customers get back on their bikes.

When the Prime Minister heard about our shop via the Broxtowe MP Darren Henry, he was keen to come and visit and also help out fixing a couple of bikes. He also borrowed a bike from us to have a little ride of his own along the beeston canal tow path and into the Heritage centre at the weir fields where he met with and chatted to members of the Beeston Road Club and Beeston Cycling Club which we carefully orchestrated to ensure security and social distancing with the allotted volunteers.

He also shared a few stories of his own concerning cycling, his own bikes and also dogs after meeting our own shop dog ‘kook’ ; there were a few jokes along the way too!

We extend our sincere thanks to Darren & his wife, Boris Johnson and all of his team and staff who were so kind and friendly throughout the morning.

Hopefully see you all again.

Cycle2Work Schemes

We are working hard on being able to accept as many of the various bike 2 work schemes as we possibly can. Theres at least 1 which we won’t be accepting but if you have a voucher or would like to know if we accept your employers scheme please give us a call on 0115 9222009 or email us or pop in have a drink and discuss your new bike.

Theres big savings to be made by using the schemes and whilst they are there it makes sense to use them.

If you’re not sure if your employer uses any schemes, speak to your HR department or manager or contact the cyclescheme or green commute initiative to gain further information on signing up.

More new brands…

We are extremely excited to announce 2 new brands to The Bike Lounge with stock arriving VERY soon and more available to order.

Ridley & Eddy Merckx!!

2 brands from the cycling hard lands of Belgium and 2 brands steeped in history and heritage.

Ridley is based in Flanders, Belgium – the heartland of cycling. Home to some of the most spectacular events such as Tour of Flanders and Gent-Wevelgem. It is here where kids master the cobblestones by the age of five. While Sundays are reserved for watching the races on TV, or lining the local streets to cheer on their favourite cyclists as they zoom by.

At Ridley, each one of our employees has cycling coursing through their veins. We live and breathe the sport. This passion is in fact the driving force behind the creation of every one of our Ridley bikes. Designed, meticulously painted and assembled here in Flanders. This is something you’ll feel in every pedal stroke while you take your Ridley out on your Sunday group ride, up that arduous mountain, or alongside the canal on your way to nailing that personal record.
